The day started with boarding the bus, seat belts compulsory which is different for our kiwi kids.
Our first stop was the Melbourne Town Hall, where the students had a guided tour through the buildings. Special highlights were:
Waving from the balcony where the Beatles, Olympians and members of the Royal Family have stood.
Learning about the history and the development of the city.
The students were given the opportunity to visit the council chambers and were able to sit in the Mayor's chair and hit the mallet.
Our tour ended with the Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle coming into the chambers to speak to the students. His speech was engaging, informative and the children asked really thoughtful questions.
We then jumped back on the bus passing Federation Sqaure on route to The Shine Of Remembrance.
Inside we were taken on a short tour of the inside of the building and had the opportunity to try on a range of military hats and packs. We solidified our learning from the Navy Museum, Auckland ,while moving around the museum learning new facts associated with the Australian troops and there involvement in WW1.
Children watched the computer generated movement of light over the Remembrance Stone, and learnt that on the 11th November sunlight will stream through a small hold located on the wall , and we will remember those lost.
After a spot of lunch under a shady tree we headed by bus to the South Melbourne Markets for a spot of shopping.

Wow - Matthew you look very comfortable in the Mayor's chair! Looks like you all had an amazing full on day!
